Summer....

Summer in zone 8b is, well, hot.  Humid and hot.  We have not had rain for 3 weeks until last night.  The flora and fauna were relieved.  We have a well for irrigation, but the plants love the rain better. You can see a visible difference after a good rainfall.  Especially a slow and steady one as we had last night.  Once the night temps get hotter, the fruiting plants will stop setting blooms.  This, of course, has some exceptions, like summer peas and okra.  They love the heat.

With all the heat, though, we are thinking and planning for the fall. We can plant the fall crops at the end of August.  We are looking forward to the greens and the root vegetables.  Also, we love the fall plantings of tomatoes as we do not have to fight the bugs then.  I don't know where they go, but they do not bother our crops in the fall.

Until next time....
