Wreath Workshop
Crafting Christmas on the Farm
Farm-fresh wreaths of magnolia, cedar, and holly.
There’s a soft hush that falls over the farm when December starts to settle in. The pastures grow quiet, the mornings turn cool and still, and the evergreens begin to glow in the gentler winter light. Around here, the holiday season doesn’t begin in a shopping aisle — it begins outside, with a pair of clippers, a basket, and a moment to breathe in the cedar-scented air.
Every year, we gather magnolia, cedar, and holly from around the farm and create our own Christmas wreaths. It’s a slow, meaningful tradition that brings peace to the season and beauty to the doorway. I used to watch Martha Stewart every week before lunch. She was such an inspiration to me and one day she made a natural wreath. I so wanted to buy the ones I saw in the magazines, but could not fathom how to do it. Until, she showed us. Since then, I have always made the wreaths for the doors for our family.
There’s something special about making a wreath from the land you live on — something steady and comforting. A reminder that home is not just where we end up, but something we tend to.
Why These Greens?
Magnolia brings that glossy, deep green texture and timeless Southern farmhouse charm.
Cedar adds fragrance — the unmistakable scent of Christmas mornings.
Holly berries offer a pop of color, cheerful and classic.
These are plants that have been part of the landscape long before we ever started making wreaths from them. There’s meaning in that — decorating your home with what’s already part of your world.
The Process (Simple & Slow)
We don’t rush through this.
-
Start with a wire wreath frame or a grapevine wreath, it's up to you.
-
Layer cedar first for fullness
-
Add magnolia leaves for shape + depth
-
Tuck holly berries wherever your eye wants a little joy
-
Tie it all together with a ribbon that fits your style
It doesn’t need to be perfect — it just needs to feel like your hands made it. You can change all of the things around if you would like, this is just one way we do it.
Some wreaths come out full and round; some end up a little wild and whimsical. Around here, we like them that way. The personality of the wreath is just as meaningful as the greenery.
A Homemade Christmas Is a Different Kind of Christmas
You can buy a wreath in five minutes.
You can make one in an hour.
But one of those holds the memory of:
-
Cold morning air
-
Laughter
-
Quiet conversation
-
Cocoa warming your hands
-
Picking out the best greenery or leaves
-
Time spent instead of time wasted
Making new friends or bringing old friends to make memories
That’s the difference.
A handmade wreath isn’t just holiday decor.
It is a memory hanging on your front door.

A Final Note From the Farm
Christmas doesn’t ask for perfection.
It asks for presence.
A warm kitchen.
A handmade thing.
Time with the ones we love.
May your season be full of slow moments,
good company,
and hands that aren’t afraid to create beauty.
Merry Christmas from the farm.
🌲 ❤️
