An ode to the wheel hoe.....

In one of our books Five acres and Independence from the early 1900's on sustainability and the small farm, we found a picture of the handy dandy wheel hoe.  This was a sustainable implement for farmers because it did not require them to take out a loan.  It was affordable.  Tractors, at that time, as they are now, are super expensive and do not cost out for the small farmer. We have always wanted one of these tools, however, they seemed elusive.  Most of them were made of metal and if they broke, well, then, you just got rid of it and got a new one.  Then we found Hoss tools in southern Georgia.  We were so happy to happen upon their site.  They provide made in America tools and replacement parts.  Also, for us, a plus is that they are farming in our same zone 8B. We love their youtube channel and have enjoyed our purchases from them.

Anyhow, our wheel hoe is becoming our prized possession, especially as we recognize our moving up in age.  It makes farming easier for us.  We are still getting our physical workouts from being on the farm, but also, it enables us to enjoy it more and plant more produce.  This is the ultimate goal after all.

Until next time.....
